Report Cites Rise In Voter Registrations Following Suit

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission report says that 53-thousand low income Hoosiers either applied to register or updated their registrations from 2011 to 2012. The report says this follows a federal lawsuit that was settled in 2011. The suit was filed to bring Indiana in compliance with the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.

The report says since the settlement, the number of voter registration applications filed by public assistance residents jumped dramatically from 2519 in 2007 to 2008 and the figures continue to rise.
