FARAI CHIDEYA, NPR NEWS & NOTES
According to a recent report in the online newspaper, The Michigan Messenger, local Republican Party leaders in Macomb County, Mich., plan to use foreclosure listings to question whether voters who go to the polls are actually eligible.
Macomb County has one of the highest foreclosure rates in the nation. The head of the Macomb County and Michigan’s statewide GOP were quick to dismiss the story as “a fabrication.” But the story’s writer stands by her reporting.
For more on this evolving story, Farai Chideya talks with Michael Slater and Ron Christie.
Slater is executive director of Project Vote, a non-partisan group that works for voter engagement in low-income communities. Christie is president of Christie Strategies and a former special assistant to George W. Bush.
