Self-styled “election integrity” group Virginia Voter’s Alliance is suing the city registrar of Alexandria, Va. to attempt to pressure her into conducting an unnecessary and improper purge of the voter rolls in advance of the 2016 election.
To protect eligible voters from unlawful disenfranchisement, the League of Women Voters of Virginia (LWVV) has filed a motion to join the case, and to join the city’s effort to have plaintiffs’ claims dismissed. The League is represented in this case by attorneys from Project Vote, Demos and by attorneys at Hogan Lovells LLP, an international law firm providing pro bono assistance.
In June 2016, the court granted LWVV’s motion to intervene, and dismissed the Virginia Voter’s Alliance’s case.
