Project Vote and our legal partners, on behalf of 1199SEIU Healthcare Workers East, filed to intervene in an ongoing legal battle in Broward County, Florida, where a self-styled “election integrity” group, the American Civil Rights Union, has sued the county supervisor in an attempt to pressure her into conducting an unnecessary and improper purge of the voter rolls, risking the accidental cancellation of eligible voters.
To protect eligible voters from unlawful disenfranchisement, 1199SEIU has also filed a proposed legal brief supporting Broward County’s effort to dismiss the plaintiffs’ claim that the county’s process for updating its voter rolls is not aggressive enough. The union is represented in this case by attorneys from voting rights groups Demos, and Project Vote, and SEIU.
On September 21, 2016, the court granted 1199SEIU’s motion to intervene.
