Every Tuesday this October, Affordable Care Act (ACA) enrollment assisters from around the country gathered online to learn more about voter registration as part of health benefits enrollment.
To complement ongoing in-person voter registration trainings for enrollment assisters in Ohio, Arizona, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, Project Vote invited enrollment assisters working in states including North Carolina, Utah, Maine, and Mississippi to participate in a fall Webinar before the start of the ACA’s second Open Enrollment period on November 15, 2014.
The “Voter Registration and Health Benefits” Webinar, offered “live” four times in October, is an introduction to voter registration rules and best practices and is specifically tailored to the ACA enrollment context. The aim of the training is for every participant to leave the webinar confident addressing the voter registration question on the Federally-facilitated Exchange applications and better informed about his or her options to encourage clients to register to vote.
In total, more than 60 enrollment assisters participated in the “Voter Registration and Health Benefits Webinar.” At the end of each training, assisters shared what they were most excited to have learned. One assister noted, “The difference in income and how it affects the people voting.” Another told us, “One thing I am excited to put into action is having voter registration cards available at our agency.”
A recorded version of the Webinar is available on the Project Vote website: http://projectvote.org/health-care-exchanges.html
