The President’s Commission on Election Administration released recommendations for improving the voting experience today. The Commission was created last year in response to the long lines and other voting issues Americans endured during the 2012 election.
Key recommendations include modernizing voter registration through online voter registration and increasing access to the polls with in-person early voting. Both policies have gained popularity among election administrators, lawmakers, and voters in recent years. The bipartisan Commission further recommends managing allocation of polling place resources and reforming the certification process for new voting technology.
The new report adds to the national voting rights discussion: last week, members of Congress introduced a bill to restore voter protections under the Voting Rights Act.
