Yesterday, Connecticut became the 15th state to offer voter registration online.

Voting-age citizens who have a Connecticut ID may now access and submit voter registration applications online through the state Website (https://voterregistration.ct.gov/OLVR/). Registered voters may also update their name, address or party affiliation at the site.

The new system is the result of a law that passed in 2012.

“This is a reform that many of us wanted for many years,” said Secretary of the State Denise Merrill.

Online voter registration has increasingly gained bipartisan support in the states. Last month, the Presidential Commission on Election Administration recommended online voter registration to help improve voters’ experience and at least 15 states have proposed online voter registration this legislative session.
