Project Vote is proud to announce the updating and expanding of its library of state Voter Registration Guides. Covering 25 states, these guides reflect the current statutes regarding voter registration, including rules on voter eligibility, conducting voter registration drives, and other information useful for anyone interested in registering to vote or assisting others in registering to vote.

Many organizations, large and small, are interested in conducting voter registration drives and see the often-murky legal restrictions around voter registration as a significant barrier to getting started. These guides provide straightforward answers to the most common questions involved in conducting voter registration programs, registering to vote, and being eligible to cast a ballot on Election Day. Each guide provides details about who is eligible to register to vote and what information is required on a voter registration application for that state.  In addition, the guides answer 10 specific questions about what, if any, restrictions the state place on different aspects of voter registration programs.

When applicable, additional information is provided about photo identification requirements, online voter registration, and other state-specific programs or procedures.

Project Vote hopes that organizations across the country will be able to use these materials to guide them through their state’s voter registration requirements. This will allow voter registration drives of all sizes and levels of expertise to conduct themselves in accordance with local laws and regulations, avoiding many of the disastrous legal landmines that plague the enterprise. By releasing these guides, Project Vote aims to assist interested organizations in expanding the electorate and making it easier for Americans to register to vote, no matter where they live.
