Resources for Policy MakersAs a leading technical assistance provider in the areas of voter participation, civic engagement, and election administration, Project Vote offers a range of written resources for policy makers engaged in these topics. We also provide research, analysis, strategic advice, and testimony on state-specific election issues upon request. Laws and rules, of course, set the framework for election administration in any state. Project Vote can help ensure that framework not only functions efficiently, but also does so in ways that do not create new barriers for low-income and minority voters.
To that end, we provide analysis, expert testimony and even suggested language for election bills and administrative rules. Policy makers may find our expertise and experience in voter registration, list maintenance and voting procedures especially useful.
Project Vote also conducts policy research into current issues in election administration, such as provisional voting and public access portals. Many of our findings and recommendations are available in a series of short policy briefs. Some proposals can be readily implemented through our model bills. We also serve as an “answer desk” to field questions not addressed in our written documents. Finally, we have an extensive network of relationships with academics, attorneys, advocates and community organizations that work on, or have a stake in, these issues. Project Vote can help policy makers identify community members impacted by proposed policies, recruit additional experts, and organize testimony representing a range of interests and constituencies. For information on how to take advantage of these resources, please contact Michael Slater, Deputy Director.
