As part of Project Vote's ongoing effort to keep you informed about the changing landscape of election legislation, we are pleased to provide the Spring 2015 edition of our ongoing Legislative Threats and Opportunities series. 

Three months into 2015, the battle for the 2016 election is already being fought in legislatures across the country.  Since January, lawmakers on the state and federal levels have introduced over 180 bills that would change state and federal voting laws.

Voter Empowerment Act would Improve Elections for Both Voters and Officials E-mail

Voting Rights Advocates Settle Voter Registration Suit E-mail

DTA agrees to remedy NVRA compliance problems

March 19, 2015

BOSTON, NEW YORK, and WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, voting rights advocates announced a settlement with the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) that will ensure that hundreds of thousands of eligible Massachusetts citizens are provided opportunities to register to vote in compliance with the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA). In light of the settlement, the parties have jointly requested that U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper enter an order dismissing the claims against the DTA. The settlement will become effective when Judge Casper enters the requested order.
