ID necessary at the polls?

Yes – for everyone1

Acceptable forms of ID at the polls

Photo ID required:

  • Louisiana driver’s license

  • Louisiana ID card

  • Other generally recognized picture ID card containing applicant’s signature

If no ID

Vote a provisional ballot.


If the voter is not on a precinct roll or does not have photo ID, an election official will contact the registrar of voters to confirm the voter's eligibility. The voter will then sign an affidavit to confirm identity and will be given a provisional ballot.2
