ID necessary at the polls?

Yes – Only for all voters who registered before September 2004 and did not present a driver's license or social security.

If the voter registered after September 2004, she or he will not need to show ID.

A precinct election official may ask for ID from anyone who is listed as inactive on the rolls, or if the voter is unknown to the election official.

Acceptable forms of ID at the polls

Must show name and address:

  • Photo ID

  • Utility bill

  • Bank statement

  • Government paycheck

  • Government document

If no ID

Vote a provisional ballot. She or he will then have until the Monday or Tuesday after the election to prove identity.
